Before you purchase your MP3 player, you need to know what specifications are required.
Recorded Books has provided a list of portable listening devices they have tested with the digital audiobooks and reported their various features:

Support of WMP/DRM encrypted files - all recommended players meet this criterion. |

|
Adequate memory - 256MB will hold one eight-hour book, 512MB will hold two books, 1G will hold four books, etc. |
|
|
Bookmarking or "Off/On" - "Off/On" defined as shutting player off without stopping/pausing, then restarting player to return to the same place in the file. |
|
|
Full time display/Forward and Reverse - other aids to navigability. |
|
|
Ability to play 34Kbps WMA files.
